Per-developer dev box without the per-developer bill

Codespaces charges per active developer-hour. Gitpod charges per developer. The math is fine for ten engineers and unpleasant for forty: at scale, the seat license is the second-biggest infrastructure line on the invoice.

On Hoody, every developer gets a container cloned from the team's golden snapshot. VS Code in the browser, full terminal, the codebase, the deps, the secrets. They open a URL and they're coding. When they close the laptop, the container suspends: zero ongoing cost, files preserved, ports preserved, branch preserved.

Forty containers across two bare metal boxes runs about $200 a month total. The same shape on Codespaces would be ten times that and counting the build minutes.

Codespaces charged per developer. Your bare metal doesn't care how many of you there are.
