Files

Every file has a history, even the ones you never committed

Tuesday you hand-edited the nginx config to hotfix a redirect. Friday it's broken and nobody remembers what it said before.

On Hoody, you don't remember: you ask. Every mutation in the container is journaled with a content-addressable snapshot of the file at that moment. ?history lists every revision of the config. ?revision=3 returns the file as it was then. ?diff&from_seq=3&to_seq=5 shows exactly what Tuesday's hand changed.

Git protects the files you remembered to commit. The journal protects everything else: configs, dotfiles, the script you wrote in /tmp and grew attached to.

The filesystem remembers, whether you committed or not.
