One display per app: your taskbar becomes a bookmarks bar

One container, several displays, one application each. display-1 is the editor. display-2 is the browser. display-3 is LibreOffice. display-4 is GIMP. Each display is its own URL with its own resolution and window state, and each terminal pairs with its display by number: run gimp & in terminal-4 and it appears in display-4. Or set DISPLAY=:4 from any shell and aim a program wherever you want.

So the apps become bookmarks. Cmd+click three of them and your desktop is three browser tabs, each a different live application on the same machine. Drag one to a second monitor. Open another on the iPad.
