The researcher's all-day reading workspace

A PhD student's morning: a PDF reader for the paper she's annotating, a file manager so she can drag in new papers, a Zotero browser tab for citation lookups, a notes pad open in a code panel for markdown drafts, a terminal where she runs grep across her literature folder, a second browser panel pinned to Google Scholar.

She arranged this once. Now it's one URL.

She opens it on the desktop in the office. She opens the same URL on the iPad in the library. The layout is the same. The notes she typed in the morning are sitting in the same file. The terminal is still in ~/papers/2026/.

This is what a workspace is, in the sense Hoody means it: a tab that contains the apparatus of a day's work. Six tools, one tab, one URL: the workspace is the desk.
