Ten editor instances on a shared box
Ten side projects, ten VS Code instances, one bare metal box. Each project at its own id=: its own port, its own data directory, its own extensions, its own pinned tabs from the last time you closed the browser.
The instance you opened in March is still there in October. It didn't sleep. It didn't hibernate. It just sat on a substrate where idle costs almost nothing: the ten near-identical environments share their disk blocks copy-on-write, and the shared kernel's page cache loads their common stack once. Running ten of them costs little more than running one.
Codespaces would charge per seat per month, ten times. Gitpod would meter the hours. Hoody charges for the box; the box already had room for ten more.
The economics aren't a sleep schedule. They're a substrate.
