The writer's workspace, in one tab

The novelist's workspace has four panels. A code editor open to the current chapter: markdown, no formatting distractions, just text. A file manager showing the manuscript folder so she can drag in research notes. A browser panel pinned to her dictionary. A terminal where she runs wc -w to check the word count.

Four panels arranged on screen the way her mind is arranged on the book.

She closes the laptop at the bookstore. She opens the same URL at home. The layout snaps back. The chapter file is still open at the cursor position the editor remembered. Nothing reloaded: the panels are pointed at a long-running container, and the container has been awake the whole time.

Writing happens in one tab now, not in eleven.
