The number in the board deck has a query log
Three months after the board meeting, the auditor asks how the 11.4% retention figure was produced. Forty analysts touch the warehouse. Nobody remembers.
GET /api/v1/sqlite/history?db=warehouse.db returns every statement the service has executed: the SQL text, the Unix timestamp, the duration in milliseconds, the rows affected, the status. You filter to the afternoon the deck was built. There's the SELECT, with the WHERE cohort >= '2025-10' clause that explains the number. There's the UPDATE ten minutes earlier that back-filled the missing country codes.
You paste both into the response. The auditor has the transformation, the order, and the timing.
Nobody installed a lineage product. Nobody wrote a logging decorator. The database kept its own history because that's what this database does.
Lineage isn't a tool you buy. It's what the database remembers.
