Your free plan is a real container, and it costs you what idle costs

Your pricing page has a free plan. Four thousand people are on it. Eleven percent will ever pay.

On per-instance pricing, free users share one crowded database and a feature list you trimmed to keep the bill down. On Hoody, each free account is a container copied from your template: its own SQLite file, its own filesystem, its own URL. Four thousand of them sit on one bare metal box. The ones nobody has opened since March burn no CPU; their disk blocks are still mostly the template's, copy-on-write, and the kernel loaded their identical binaries once.

Free users were a cost you tolerated for conversion. Now they're a container you don't notice. When one upgrades, nothing migrates: the paid plan is the same machine with the limits lifted.

The free plan isn't a worse product; it's the same product, idling.
