CodeContainers

Pair-program by sharing one URL

Two engineers, one container, one shared problem. Both bookmark the same URL with different id= parameters: different VS Code instances, same filesystem underneath. Each types in their own browser, with their own cursor, on their own laptop.

When one of them saves a file, the other's editor picks up the change. When one of them starts the dev server on port 3000, the other can hit it from their browser. The database is the same database. The dependencies are the same dependencies. The container is the container.

What used to be VSCode Live Share's host-and-guest dance is now two peers on a filesystem. No host. No guest. No "I'll grant you write access." They communicate over Slack or voice, leave comments in the code itself, and trust file-level sync to do the rest.

The environment is shared. The editing is yours.
