DisplayPipe
Press play before the render finishes
The client wants to see the cut before end of day, and the render takes ninety minutes. Don't make them wait for the file. The editor, working in the studio container's display session, starts the export writing to stdout, and the stream goes straight into a pipe. The client opens ?video and watches a file that is still being written.
Playback advances at render speed: they're seeing frames minutes after the encoder produces them, in a browser, on whatever screen is nearby. Notes come back before the render finishes; the fix starts before the old workflow would have finished uploading.
Review cycles used to be render, upload, link, wait. Now delivery starts with the render.
They pressed play on a file that didn't exist yet.
