Containers

Three dev servers, three URLs, zero vhost config

Next.js on 3000. Storybook on 6006. The Astro docs site on 4321. One repo, one container, three processes.

Each one gets its own hostname with its port in the name: http-3000, http-6006, http-4321. Each has HTTPS. Each is bookmarkable, iframeable, shareable with a reviewer who has no idea what a dev container is.

The alternative was a docker-compose.yml with three services, an nginx block mapping three server names, a local hosts-file edit, and a mkcert dance for a padlock nobody believed anyway. Or one dev server at a time, with the other two as tabs you never quite have open.

Ports used to be an inside detail. Here every port is an address.
